Lesson Tutor : Even More Bee Activities

More Bee Activities
by Lisa Hawkins

hese activities go along with my other articles, making a complete bee unit study.

Draw and label a bee and its parts.

Bees are partly responsible for many of the products we use every day, such as: shoe polish, candles, crayons, lipstick, cold creams, ink, wallpaper, gum, moisturizer cream and more. Make some of the following recipes.

Make this honey recipe:

Warm up some honey in a pot, add some lavender flowers (you can purchase your own lavender plants in the herb section of any store that sells plants. Some grocery stores carry this herb plant too). Continue to warm the honey and lavender on the stove, do not let it boil. Strain the honey through a sieve and throw away the sticky lavender flowers.

Pour the lavender honey into a pretty glass jar. Tie a bow around the neck of the jar and glue some lavender flowers on the lid. This would be a nice gift or have a tea party and serve this honey in your tea.

Make furniture polish:

Melt 4 ounces of beeswax and 2 tablespoons of carnauba wax (found at health food stores) in microwave or in double boiler. Remove from heat and add in 2 1/2 cups mineral spirits (hardware store). Apply to clean cloth (do not apply directly to furniture), rub cloth in small circles on furniture, turn cloth to buff.
