| When
students learn, they feel good about themselves. You can tell a child how
great that he/she is and that is good. Unless the child builds on their
own personal successes, they will feel inadequate despite your praise.
Who can
not teach grammar successfully?
Really,
anyone can teach grammar. If you absolutely hate English it may not be
a good idea.
Two musts
in teaching grammar:
A.) Teach
and insist on Mastery learning.
In this
type of learning the student understands the concept and is able to use
it when ever the need arises. It is like riding a bike--once you learn
it you never forget
B.) The
children that you are teaching must memorize and learn 50 prepositions.
This is the first step. These 50 prepositions are involved in almost every
aspect of grammar.

PREPOSITION
BINGO
Place
each word on a piece of construction paper (you can laminate). Place each
in a shoe box.
Give each
child a blank BINGO card.
Have each
child fill in the card using different prepositions
You, then,
select a preposition from your shoe box.
(It would
be a good idea to say the preposition and then use it in a propositional
phrase.)
The student
who gets BINGO first is the winner.
